first stop was the everett costco, which doesn't open until 10am. we had 15 minutes to kill so my mother asked to stop at dollar tree first. nothing makes her happier than buying cheap yarn from the dollar store. i also noticed this store had a new aisle of $5 items. by the time we made our way to costco, there was already people leaving the store with their purchases even though it'd just opened.
5 dozen grade AA large eggs sell for $11.99 at costco. a case of eggs at restaurant depot (RD) contain 15 dozens, so to buy the same amount would cost $36 at costco. when we went to restaurant depot around 11:15am, i got a chance to compare egg prices. a case of large cage free eggs here cost just $31.76, so it's actually cheaper. sometimes we just buy eggs at costco out of convenience, since it's a bit of a haul to get RD.
at 11:50am we were at the chelsea market basket. 3 gallon (11.36L) worth of turkey fry oil (a blend of vegetable and peanut oil) costs $39.99. it's the exact equivalent of 4 large 2.84L (96 fl.oz.) bottles of cooking oil. we might get it next time, for our own frying needs.
our last stop at 12:50pm was to bianco & sons to pick up some chinese sausages. my mother and i went in to make the purchase while my father waited in the car. we bought 3 boxes, but one of the employees had to go in the back in search of a 3rd box. we waited so long that my mother wanted to leave and just buy 2 boxes instead. so they ended up giving us smaller packages with a free bonus package to apologize for the long wait time.
we returned to cambridge via union square. around 1:20pm we stopped at the cafe to drop off the supplies, carefully unpacking the tetris-like array of boxes and containers. we didn't leave until 2pm. the whole supply run took 4-1/2 hours, in the rain no less.
my mother didn't make lunch, but did steam some corn and cooked some chicken gizzards. i spent the rest of the day cleaning the basement grow room, vacuuming all the plant debris off the floor. i then started moving in all the houseplants, as the temperature tonight will dip into the upper 30's. i also moved some plants into the sunroom as there wasn't enough space in the grow room. my father helped me move the dragon fruit cactus and the water reeds.
for dinner we had a stirfry of broken salted fish and orange chicken. my mother had inadvertently tossed out the orange chicken sauce so my father made his own. it wasn't so much that the flavor was off but rather the texture, as the breaded chicken was soggy and not at all crispy.
my father gave me a ride home after dinner. i bumped into jeff as he was stepping out of the house. he told me it was his last night here. his job is relocating him to a new apartment in central square, just a block away from the office. it's off the main street so it's not as noisy and has a view of boston. good news is he plans on moving back next spring (his third year) so i'll see him again.
there was a celtics-wizards game tonight. i caught it in the 2nd quarter, when boston was already up 20+ points. jaylen brown was the lead scorer with 36 points, while tatum had 33. celtics won 126-107. by the end of the evening, after all the games have been played, the celtics stand alone in the eastern conference as the only unbeaten team. in the west, only the nuggets and mavericks are unbeaten.
i was already in bed preparing to sleep when i remembered i forgot to bring in my own houseplants from my back porch. i got them all inside placed haphazardly around the kitchen, no time to organize them just yet.
