i woke up with the house uncomfortably warm this morning and a sore throat. whether it was due to dry mouth or coming down with a cold i don't know. karen was taking a shower by the time i finally got out of bed close to 10am. she made a scramble omelette that she shared with me while she video chatted with her boyfriend miguel from the dining table. i discovered that mexico actually has a different time zone than boston (1 hour behind) with the exception of cancun (same as here). soon after i finished eating, i took a shower and left for my parents' place. karen told me she was meeting a friend at 4pm. i taught her how to use the washer/dryer before leaving.
i helped my mother sew back the shoulder straps of my 2nd aunt's poorly made jansport backpack (although to be fair, it was probably a knockoff). we made a few stitches but finally stopped when the needle broke.
next my father drove us to the waltham OSJL (my mother saw there were yarns on sale) and then the waltham market basket (last day of egg sale, i needed 30+ for tea eggs). after OSJL we also got some sandwiches at subway ($6 footlong sale) for a late lunch early dinner. i got a $5 door snake and a packet of orange habanero seeds. market basket was crazy crowded the day before the superbowl, all 26 registers were open.
i returned home a bit after 7pm. i felt like i was coming down with something, cold chills, body aches, and runny nose. while locking up my bike outside, i remotely triggered the lights in my living room, so i could see it through the windows. i wasn't expecting karen to be home yet, but when i got inside the house, her key was already in the lock. i found her in the living room working on her laptop. she told me she met this friend of a friend who met her at l.a. burdick in copley square for authentic hot chocolate. i stpped outside briefly to grab a box of twining darjeeling tea from star market. karen hung out in the living room until 10pm before going to bed. i took a shower and watched saturday night live with host kristen stewart.
