i spent the day in a linux haze trying to debug the pi zero wifi problem once i discovered that the other OTG cable didn't work either. i did however leave the house in the afternoon to get some groceries from market basket (sungold kiwis, black seedless grapes) before stowing away all the bikes in the basement in anticipation of the rain that would come later in the evening.

i never tried sungold kiwis before, and i'm always opened to sampling new fruits. they look like regular kiwis except they're hairless and yellow instead of green on the inside. i tried one and it was a little tart, not sure if i'd label them "tropical sweet" as advertised.

for dinner i ate 2 slices of leftover pizza. cristina came home after work, a rare friday night where she wasn't out with friends. not feeling hungry, she ate her leftover spring rolls. while she was surfing the web on her ipad, we watched the shallows - the shark survival film starring blake lively. cristina showed me some wedding dresses and i found out for the first time that she and kiki are expecting to get married next summer on some mexican beach. i noticed she wasn't wearing an engagement ring and she said they were jumping directly to marriage.

later in the evening after cristina went to sleep, i continued playing around with the pi zero. earlier i tried running it off of a portable battery but because it was headless i couldn't tell if it was actually running and because the wifi still didn't work, i could remotely access the pi either. i did find a way to attach the pi zero to my computer using the OTG cable, using a process that mounts the drive using ethernet over the USB. it was easy to modify (just tweaking the config.txt and cmdline.txt) but took several tries to boot up successfully. i knew the pi zero was running and everything was working because i was suddenly able to ping to pi@raspberrypi.local then gain access via ssh (i did have to modify the known_hosts file because raspbian detected a change in the remote host credentials - this happened because i ssh'ed to the pi 3 prior to the pi zero).
