i went down to the cafe in the early afternoon to film my mother making zongzi for the duanwu holiday this coming weekend. she was making a hundred or so in various flavors: savory marinated pork and mushroom, sweet dates, and jianshui zongzi. i helped out by cutting the pork pieces into smaller bits, to better fit the zongzi. the raw meat attracted some flies; when i tried to smack one with the flyswatter i accidentally rapped my knuckles on some boxes, bruising them a little. later my father delivered 4 zongzi to my house when he went to market basket in the early evening to buy more zongzi pork.

i watched game 6 of the NBA finals tonight. golden state warriors ended up winning the championship. i was rooting for lebron james and the cavaliers, but the warriors just had too many weapons, and lebron is only one player (albeit a very powerful player). i hope cleveland don't tweak the team too much, had they just a few more healthy players, maybe the result would've been different.

my former astrophysicist roommate pau got in touch with me this morning, asking if i had a spare room available for a phd candidate coming to boston for a week in mid-august. i got in touch with the young woman and learned that not only is this her first visit to boston, but her first visit to america as well.
