i hitched a ride with my sister in the late morning to belmont (i waited an hour for her to get ready), where i was rendezvousing with my parents on a trip to baifu restaurant supplies in newmarket square (boston). my parents ended up leaving with $400 worth of groceries. i picked up a shovel for $10, to replace the one i'd been using that has a metal edge that scratches up everything it comes in contact with (wooden steps, flagstone paths).

it began to flurry by the time we left. instead of going back onto the highway, my father decided to take mass ave instead. that turned out to be a mistake as all the snow banks reduced roads from 3 lanes to just 1 lane and congestion was everywhere. finally about an hour later we made it back to belmont.

we had some lunch before going to my aunt and uncle's place in arlington for dinner.

they ordered some blue ribbon barbecue along with a few homemade dishes. we stayed and chatted until 10:20. my aunt - obsessed with her kitchen renovation - dug out a folder stuffed with notes about sinks, fixtures, tiles, and countertop material choices. by then it began to snow again, and even though i told my parents i'd be happy to get dropped off at alewife station and take the subway back, they drove me home anyway.
