today i stayed in belmont with the dog long enough for my mother to return home in the afternoon. i brought my spare rear bicycle rack which seems to fit the ross 10-speed perfectly but needs rubberized clips to attach the rear rack brackets to the seat stays. simple enough solution, i just need to get to home depot and get the parts.

i could've stayed longer but wanted to get back before the rainstorm, which didn't arrive until 5:00, the sort of torrential downpour that made me worried about the roof again. i watched a woman walking in the rain. that by itself wasn't unusual, but she didn't seem to be a hurry despite the bad weather. she paused in the middle of the road, smiling, then took a drink of hard alcohol from a glass flask. my street seems to be a major thoroughfare for alcoholics. a few months ago i saw a man kneeling on the sidewalk puking his brains out, before taking another sip from a vodka bottle.

i watched the US-argentina olympics men basketball semifinal rematch, which was actually kind of boring since it's already a foregone conclusion that america would win the game.

pau came home late, after the storm had passed. for dinner he ate some chocolate cereal from a glass cup. he fell asleep watching the olympics, then finally retreated to his bedroom.
