i went to the dollar store today to get some toilet paper and a can of WD40. the clouds were starting to go away and the sun was beginning to come out. puddles dotted the roads, reflecting the local landscape.

my parents were making a supply run at costco later in the afternoon and i tagged along so i could get a ride to the nearby home depot. i bought a jar of bungee cords (24 pieces) and a can of DAP plastic wood.

i've been wanting to attach a milk crate to the back of my bicycle for a while now. sure, there are fancier options (collapsible panniers, bicycle baskets), but nothing as cheap as the milk crate. if i'm at the supermarket i normally have my backpack, but the milk crate would be good for holding stuff on those occasions when i unexpectedly buy something or find something and need to carry it home. i figured the best way to attach a milk crate would be with a bungee cord. i needed just one but i decided to get the assorted value pack figuring it was a better bargain (joubert brand, $10). after checking what i got, i think i really only got 8 good cords. it came with a pair of 18", 24" 32" and 40" cords, but also 4 canopy tarp ties (which i could myself using if i ever buy a tarp) and 8 mini bungee cords. the thing i don't understand are the 4 30" adustable bungees. superficially they resemble alligator clips, except it doesn't seem to clip onto anything and there's only a clip on one end, while the other end is just raw bungee. i searched online trying to find a use for these cords but wasn't able to find anything. the closest i got was to the manufacturer's website (a french company) and discovered these are "clip quicks" but how they're used is still a mystery. nevertheless, at $10 it's still a bargain. it would've been nice if the cords were different colors, other than uniformly orange (although the hooks have the length size written on them).

i confess: i've been watching the world series, despite the fact that boston is no longer in it. it's because i want to see the yankees lose and will naturally root for their opponent, in this case the phillies. there was cause for celebration yesterday when philadelphia beat new york in their own stadium last night. and then there was game 2 tonight, a matchup between former red sox ace pedro martinez against the yankees. just like old times! pedro did well, but the yankees score a few times off of him on single homers. the philly offense seemed flat tonight. now the series is tied 1-1. had philadelphia won tonight, there was a good chance the yankees would lose the series altogether. but now it's a brand new game, best out of 5.
