"we have your slot machines," the girl told me over the phone this morning. huh? slot machines? maybe it was just too early, but she was talking way too fast. "sorry, could you repeat that?" i asked her. it took me a few seconds before i was able to decipher what she was telling me. "oh, the salt marsh grass!" i thanked her but it was too little too late. i was going to use salt marsh grass as a garden mulch early in the season but it's almost august, so i don't need it anymore.

a steady rain kept me indoors today. it was a cold rain and i cracked open a few windows to let in the cool breeze. i had some errands to run, but nothing that can't be postponed until tomorrow, when hopefully the weather won't be as wet. the most constructive thing i did today was to clean off the coffee table in the living room, where it'd been covered with clutter for a few weeks. had some canned clam chowder for lunch and some baked chicken strips for dinner. i heated them in the broken toaster oven, which despite any attempts to set the temperature, always seems to broil everything. i put out the trash later in the evening, but not the recycleables; i don't like putting paper out when it's rainy outside, turns everything into a messy pulp.
