in the early afternoon i checked out a few open studios in the cambridgeport area. there was an exhibit of obama photos (along with some unrelated bird photos); a macrophotographer who used just a simple point-and-shoot digital camera; a cartoonist; and a stained glass maker. it was easy for me to get around and more importantly find parking spots because i was on the motorcycle. i left when it started to look like it might rain. the stained glass maker was the most amazing thing i've seen in a long time. i would've seriously considered buying a piece if it was a few hundred dollars but each one was selling for thousands. it inspired me to want to become a stained glass maker myself, the play of colors and shapes in a very precise and technical manner.

since i haven't been in the garden for a few days, i went to check up on my plants. the snow peas haven't gotten bigger, but none of the tendrils have grown long enough to climb on the rusty tomato cages yet. i was disappointed to see that none of my lettuces had sprouted; i think the problem was i didn't use a very good soil mixture and just used the dirt that was in the garden. not sure if there's enough time to retry or i could wait until late summer. some of the mescluns have sprouted though. there were also a new crop of wild morning glory seedlings. i pulled what i could but will probably need to rework the soil slightly with a hoe.

in the early evening i got a chicken teriyaki sandwich from the nearby subway. i think they stopped their $5 foot long promotion, or maybe reduced the number of sandwiches that qualify. sophia came home soon afterwards, and then left later in the evening for a starbuck break with her coworker friend paolo. they came back and i had a spirited conversation with paolo about written science fiction.
