i drove my mother to kenmore square for her 7:45 colonoscopy appointment. although she speaks english well enough, she asked for a chinese translator anyway, who was late to arrive. while my mother was getting her examination, i was outside in the waiting room going through a pile of magazines i'd brought along for the occasion. 2 hours later she came out with the doctor, who gave me the prognosis (nothing serious, eat more fiber). we got our parking ticket validated ($5 instead of $15) and went downstairs to the au bon pain so my mother could get some food before driving back into town. we stopped by the cafe to pick up some rice porridge before returning to belmont. while my mother rested, i moved the motorcycle out of storage and rode myself back to cambridge.

the 2009 riding season has officially begun! as far as riding is concerned, this has been a very short winter hiatus. i was riding all the way into the end of last december (i was hoping i'd get to ride through january, but then it started snowing), and only 2.5 months have passed before i'm back out again. i didn't winterize the bike at all in december other than giving it a good wash and adding some stabilizing fluid to the gasoline (i just left the battery on the bike, it started without any problems). although the temperature is still going to be cold for a while (probably not until june will we have true stretches of warm days), having my motorcycle again means i can at the very least do short distance errands, like visit the supermarkets or some favorite lunch places.

i hope this doesn't become a habit but i fell asleep on the couch again this afternoon. i briefly entertained the idea of going out for a run, but my feet still hurt from all the walking (and a bit of running) last week, so that was my excuse. i think my body sort of adjusted to the warmer san francisco climate because i don't remember my house being so cold before.
