i didn't have too much going on today so i told my roommate i'd take him to chinatown so he could get some information on bus tours to niagara falls and washington dc, as well as details on buying a plane ticket for his wife. we had to first pay a visit to the porter square CVS where i gave them a drug prescription. we went to the nearby (recently moved) mcintyre and moore bookstore to do some browsing but neither of us found anything good. we finally set off to boston. at park street station we saw some people waving gaza protest signs on the platform. we got off at south station and walked to chinatown.

after my roommate inquired at two different travel agencies, we went to the china supermarket on lincoln street. it was busy (not unusual for a weekend) but not as busy as that time we came the weekend before thanksgiving. next we cut through post office square, the financial district entirely uninhabited in the shadows of the tall office buildings. we did some shopping in haymarket: my roommate got two boxes of strawberries for $1.50 and i got 2 lbs. of cherries for $3. we went to the halal butcher shop again to buy some meat. i wanted to get some mutton but the butcher accidently gave me boned lamb instead (i figured that out when i saw the more expensive price tag). my roommate got a few pounds of beef chunks for stewing.

instead of grabbing the T from government center, we decided to walk a little bit further and catch the red line straight from park street. we wanted to see if the ice sculptures were still up but they were all demolished for safety reasons. we watched people skating on frog pond until the arrival of the zamboni machine made everyone leave the rink. back in porter square, my roommate went home first while i picked up my prescription and got a white hot chocolate from the nearby dunkin' donuts. i was sad to learn that DD had phased out the white hot chocolate (one of my favorite winter drinks!) so i got a vanilla chai latte instead (not as good).

i had some ramen for dinner. my roommate shared half of his strawberries with me. i gave him copies of the santa speedo photos and some of the ones i took from today. he let me borrow his camcorder so i could try importing some video footage. apparently imovie won't allow me to transfer minidv footage via usb so i'll need to find the proper AV style firewire cable.
