my mother called this morning, something about me returning to belmont to take care of the dog. my father came to pick me up as we made a stop to the supermarket. he suffered a back injury a few days ago and was still hobbling, barely able to walk. he used the shopping cart as an improvised walker. we dropped off some stuff at the cafe before going home. my father was supposed to rest but after a few hours he went back to the cafe while i stayed with hailey. all the melting snow on this unusually warm 60+ degrees day meant the backyard was a muddy mess, which also meant hailey tracking all that stuff into the house. i wiped her feet every time, but i caught her digging a hole and finally had to bring her into the bathtub for a more thorough cleaning. after consulting the 5-day weather forecast, i decided to bring out the motorcycle, hidden in the garage behind a car, two bicycles, and a lawnmower. snow is forecasted for wednesday and friday but i'm willing to take the risk if it means i'll be able to do at least some riding to issue in the new year.

for dinner we had some nondescript curry. i gave hailey a rawhide chew earlier in the day; the half she didn't finish she hid somewhere in the house where nobody could find it. my father decided to sleep on the living room floor in hopes of relieving his back pains with a hard flat surface. after attacking my father in the face with a punching ball, hailey decided to sleep nearby as well. i made my way back to cambridge on the motorcycle. the temperature was a balmy 55 degrees, i tried to enjoy it while it lasted, not too many more days like this during the winter.

i went over to bruce's place as soon as i got back home. his system died today and i was trying to help him retrieve his personal files prior to a complete windows re-install (something about a corrupt hal.dll file). what i thought would be a pretty cut and dry operation ran into a snag when we realized his hard drive had some sort of encryption so i couldn't access his system to replace the corrupt file or even get into his user folder. i gave it a shot but he's going to have to take it to a professional now, borrowing my spare external drive for the data dump. for my troubles, i got some maple ice cream and tried some bailey's irish cream. bruce was still obsessed with ice penguins and kept the centerpiece from christmas dinner. before i left he started on a new penguin with multi-colored body parts.

although my roommate wasn't home when i got back the first time, he was home when i returned, putting away some grocery into the fridge. i managed to find 2 more missing state quarters from bruce so now my roommate only needs wisconsin to complete his set. he was at work again today and told me he planned on working every single weekend until mid-february so he can take some time off to spend with his wife when she arrives.
