i took an hour break in the afternoon to go out and run some errands. without a car, my only mode of affordable transportation is to walk. so i got all bundled up in my wool socks and fleece inner layer and furry hat and headed out the door. when you dress right for the winter weather, it's really not that bad and the cold air is actually quite pleasant in moderation. besides, due to my overall lack of wintertime activity, walking has become my de facto form of exercise. first stop: the harvard vanguard office to pick up my HBP medication prescription that i phoned in earlier today.

next i went to harvard square to pick up the latest issue of entertainment weekly. when the hell is my renewal going to kick in? if i don't get next week's issue tomorrow, it's time for me to mount a campaign of angry letter writing and disgruntled phone calling. this is absolutely outrageous, if i can't get a steady supply of weekly entertainment news delivered to me, heads are going to roll.

returning home, i couldn't help admire all the salt stains covering the streets. and by "admire" i mean disgusted. what an eyesore, like the whole city is covered in what looks to be dried drool or something. i've never wished for snow more than i do now (except for those winter days back in grade school, praying to god for a snow day to get out of a test). a thick layer of the white stuff to cover up this unsightly mess.

in the evening my father came by and we went to go get some birthday barbecue takeout from blue ribbon in arlington. today he turns 59 years old. we got a double serving of the duo combination, sausages in each, one with burnt ends, the other with ribs, and returned to belmont to share with my mother. afterwards i drove myself back to cambridge. an tao's wife was snacking on the couch with a bag of sunflowers. i offered her some leftover cream puffs which she didn't hesitate to finish.
