i've never made cookies before. it could be because i'm not a very big cookie eater. dry and crumbly just ain't my thang. however, every once in a while the mood will strike me so today i decided to try making some cookies. i bought an instant oatmeal and chocolate cookie mix a few days ago. all i needed to add was an egg and a stick of butter.

basically the butter was the glue holding the cookie bits together, and it was such a mess to mix, i ended up using my bare hands. i made about 2 dozen in a series of 3 batches. after eating the first few fresh ones straight out of the oven (they were so soft they were more like small pancakes than cookies), i saved the rest for later.

in the evening an tao and i watched titanic on television. just two guys watching the timeless love story between jack and rose on a saturday evening, is there anything wrong with that? earlier there was a documentary about stephen hawking and his black hole theories which an tao found interesting based on his own astronomy research. he said a few people in his lab were working on black hole detection, which blew my mind. an tao also made his own bread loaf for the very first time tonight. because we only eyeballed 4 cups of flour instead of measuring, the dough was like soup and i had to add more flour. the loaf turned out okay, a bit plain even though an tao added a scoop of sunflower, and the top of the bread looked deflated, like maybe it rose too fast. after he went to bed, i fired up the playstation 2 and killed two more colossuses, number 9 (the geyser giant, it's taken me 2 weeks) and number 10 (the sand dragon).

this is a funny photo of angelina jolie and maddox. he's either going to grow up to be the coolest kid or the least well-adjusted kid. celebrity mothers are fascinating. on the one hand you have your britney spears, who always seems to be just one step away from child protective services paying a visit to her house and putting her kids in foster care. you hardly ever see her children, what with her all night partying, and when you do see them, they're always in dangerous, like nearly being dropped or strapped incorrectly on the car seat. then you have angelina jolie, taking maddox with her where ever she goes, if not on a movie set, than on a humanitarian mission for the united nation. is there nothing angelina can't do? actress, wife, mother, diplomat?
