breaded pork cutlets with fennel

i woke up around 1pm this afternoon, with just another 3 more hours of daylight before it got dark again. in my defense, i did go to bed around 5am, but waking up so late is still pretty depressing. i spent the day watching more episodes of weeds then browsing a few back issues of everyday food to gather up a list of ingredients to try out some recipes. i headed down to market basket, forgetting the fact that on a normal weekday this place is already pretty busy, but on a weekend it's absolutely insane. the already small aisles were clogged with shopping carts and the checkout lines were a congested mess. by the time i left the supermarket the sky was already dark.

for dinner i made some breaded pork cutlets with fennel (although in the produce section it was labelled as "anise") along with a bowl of pomegranate seeds. later in the evening my sister called me, told me i had to return to my parents' place because she found a live mouse trapped in the washing machine. she was initially hysterical but i talked her through capturing the mouse with an inverted plastic bag. later she called back saying she released the mouse into the backyard, but it must've been injured when it fell into the washing machine, because it was still alive but wasn't moving. i told her to get a shoebox and make a mouse hospice.

i've been thinking about getting another aquarium and found a good used tank on craig's list last night. the woman who owns it contacted me today and i'm going to go pick it up tomorrow. it's only 7 gallons (my current hexagon tank is around 2 gallons) but it's a glass mini-bow aquarium. most importantly, it's large enough to add a heater (my current tank doesn't have a heater, i'm really amazed any fish is able to survive through the winter). i'm only getting another aquarium because i don't want to introduce any new fish to my preexisting tank. i feel like i owe it to that last remaining cherry barb not to add strangers to its house.
