i couldn't believe it when i got up this morning and started working. it's crazy i tell you, it's a brand new me. the fact that i got 10 hours of sleep last night might've had something to do with it. i began with some SRM debugs, then moved onto my X project. around noontime i went across the street for some groceries, coming home with smoked turkey drumsticks for lunch. it was cold today, 28 degrees, cold enough for snow, which was exactly what happened by the time evening came around.

i got dressed (when the temperature dips below 40 degrees i break in my long underwear) and headed into boston for a sneak preview screening of ocean's twelve, where i met joel, sara, and shaun. i got there way too early, and since they were reserving a seat for me, i had time to go into chinatown and buy some food. when i got back i sat in the press row, and saw sara edwards (channel 7) and joyce kulhawik (channel 4), seasoned local entertainment reporters. i imagined them going home and filing their report, similar to what i'd be doing.

ocean's twelve epitomizes cool. you see those guys hanging out and you want to be in that gang, be a part of that camaraderie. it's true they're professional thieves, but they only rob from those who deserve it. i wasn't much of a fan of the prior ocean's eleven (i thought it was a polished chick flick disguised as a guy film), and if i wasn't getting a free ticket i don't think i'd ever have gone and seen this movie, so i was surprised by how much i was entertained by this film. it's just a fun heist movie, straight and simple. clooney is as smirky and good-looking as ever, he wears the role like a well-tailored suit. pitt has a forced intensity about his performance and his tiny shiny shirts are distracting (maybe in a good way). julie roberts is surprisingly unglamorous, looking very plain and sickly, while the newest member, catherine zeta-jones, is a european bombshell hot on the gang's trail, with her stylish wardrobe and well-kept appearance. the whole cast has a feel-good quality about it, like you could easily imagine them hanging out together off-camera as well, the chemistry is that slick: this is the dream team of ensemble players. surely an ocean's thirteen must be in the works after the movie goes public this weekend. i expect it to grab the number one spot in the box office.

after it was all over, the four of us grabbed the choo-choo back to porter square. i came home, did some more work (checking some files the client's had sent me), then had a very late dinner (more smoked turkey) while watching the italian job and elf (from netflix).
