up to the point where i was coming home from work the most exciting thing that happened today was the fact that i went to work bagless once more. i noticed a few other people on the train going bagless as well, all guys. real men don't carry purses. leaving my bag at home empowered me. untethered, my movements unrestricted by a cumbersome bag, i felt dangerous, like i was free to do anything i wanted. never mess with a bagless man! he has nothing (at least not a bag) to lose.

work was work, a bit more relaxing than usual, i now recognize it as riding a small post-delivery high. outside it snowed briefly for a little bit, although nothing was sticking. i was so ready to go out for a run during lunch but i backed down at the last minute. instead i reheated the lentil soup renata had made and ate that by my desk, surfing the web for tidbits of anti-bush news.

i left the office promptly at 6pm. the sky outside was blue instead of black, and in another month it will still be daylight when i go home. i wanted to get back early because of dinner plans but also i wanted to catch the evening news, one of the things i miss the most. if i only had tivo, i'd get it to record the news so i can watch it when i get back home! i'd also get tivo to record all my favorite cooking shows that are on in the early evening, when i'm still at work.

it was julie's turn to make dinner and she made a red wine with mushroom risotto dish. i made some smoothies (with difficulty, the frozen fruits clogged up the blender) and some garlic bread. the guy on tonight's queer eye was a figure skater who didn't need any help: married to a beautiful italian woman, he himself was very attractive and seemed to live a charmed life, not a lot of makeover needed other than to fix up his feet. watching the show reminded me of a weekly dig article i read about how queer eye is all about five gay men extolling the virtues of traditional family values, how every week is about improving a straight guy for his girlfriend or wife, making couples better by developing the man. julie stayed until she thought one of her troubling roommate would be asleep, taking with her some risotto leftovers.
