i woke up at noon and had a slice of leftover lasagna. until thai red curry, lasagna is an easy food to keep, just throw it into the microwave for a few minutes and it tastes just as good as when i first made it last night. not feeling i'm getting enough fruits in my diet, i also whipped up a glass of smoothie. this saturday lacked imagination, it was more of a maintenance day. after finishing yesterday's weblog entry, i took some fish photos. sometimes i think one of the reasons i got them was just to have some wildlife in the house to photograph whenever i want. i got dressed and went out into the backyard to set up the birdfeeder. this was probably something i should've done at the end of fall, but i feel like i'm doing my part to feed the hungry birds during this harsh new england winter. the feeder had been sitting outside all year and was covered with leaves frozen solid in an ice mold. i had to bring it inside and thaw it out in the tub under some warm water.
i spilled some water onto the deck, and mere minutes later it was frozen solid. while inspecting the backyard, i saw a landscape of cigarette butts littering the space underneath the deck. i have my roommate to thank for that, he started to smoke again while he was studying for his finals. maybe he failed to realize that cigarette butts don't biodegrade so i had to crawl underneath the house to collect them all. there were also evidence of burnt leaves from unextinguished cigarettes.

i went to the family dollar store in somerville to look for grow lights (it was a long shot, they didn't have any). instead, i bought a cleaning brush, a glass bowl, and some hand soup. i then went next door to the brazilian supermercado to buy a case of guarana. i returned home, had another slice of lasagna for dinner, before andrew and maura showed up to watch the football game. i let them have my remaining two slices of lasagna since they didn't have dinner yet. it was a tight matchup between the titans and the patriots, but in the end, the patriots won again, which is a good thing, because midway through the game i shouted "victory is ours!" and i was glad i didn't have to eat my words.
