after my plans to go sledding this morning got canceled (which to be honest i was pretty thankful, i don't think i could've gotten access to any vehicle, and besides, i was trapped at home due to the weather), i watched my car owning neighbors dig their rides out of the snow. there was a real sense of community as people slowly worked their vehicles out of the white stuff. whenever a car would come down the street, people would retreat to the safety of sidewalks, before coming back out on the road to continue excavating. remarkably, it was still snowing, but nowhere near the quantity of yesterday. those who weren't digging walked down to the supermarket to buy groceries, their food reserves obviously at a low. i also saw people walking their dogs (the show must go on), and one mother was pulling her daughter on a wooden sled. thinking about the supermarket made me hungry, so i made lunch, eating the rest of my leftover bing. i dined while watching the eagles-cowboys football game. later, i worked on my vacation travelogue a little bit more, adding about another page worth of content (the link above will take you there).

i didn't leave my house until later in the evening, when my parents came by to pick me up to have dinner in belmont. there was a wall of snow on the sidewalk, and i had to walk several houses down before i could find an opening out onto the street. i brought my ibook so i could transfer a copy of all my costa rica photos to my father. after dinner, we ordered a dvd-burner, my father's been wanting one so he can do his digital video stuff. i brought with me the leftover flan i made from tuesday night, both my parents had one for dessert. i watched the patriots beat the dolphins, tom brady even sneak punted, you never know what you're going to get when you play new england. afterwards, my father drove me back to cambridge. it had finally stopped snowing.

after alias (the story gets more and more complicated, sydney & will hitting it? sark torturing his estranged father with a blowtorch? and no new episode next sunday?), i went to work on another short round of bug fixes for my one neverending freelance project. once that was done though, i once again breathed a sigh of premature relief, and went out into the backyard with a flashlight to check up on the progress of my lawn gnome. only the tip of his hat is visible. so how tall is the gnome, 16 inches? at least that much snow fell in my neck of the woods.
