if the floor guys can be trusted, then tomorrow should be the day when they come over to my house to work their magic on my floors. this will be the third attempt at doing the floors. the first time they came but because their equipment was busted, they couldn't do any work so they left. the next day they came back, attempt two, but when jimmy (the guy in charge) learned that i wanted to split the laying out of more floorboards with sanding the rest of the floors, he told me to reschedule for another time when i could have them do both, since it'd be easier for them. over a month later, i finally get back in touch with the floor guys. i wonder if they thought they'd never hear back from me? since the last time i talked with those guys, i've stripped all the window frames, had all the windows replaced, had an electrician redo all the lights, and had a plumber come by a do some minor repair work. i guess i haven't been just sitting on my ass the whole time.

after a little bit more of paint stripping, my father and i moved everything down to the basement. i must've made 20 trips down, carrying boxes of stuff or pieces of furniture. it's amazing how much things i've accumulated in the house within the past two months, despite the fact that i knew one day i've have to move everything when the floor guys came. with the house reemptied, my father wanted to fix a couple of creaking floorboards in the kitchen. this was happening because when zuka jacked up the kitchen floor from the basement, he missed a few support beams so the floorboards weren't attached to anything. anyway, while my father was downstairs in the basement hammering shims into the gaps within the crossbreams, i was upstairs walking around the kitchen, locating the sources of the creaks. the house still creaks when i walk around (100 year old house, that's what happens), but at least the kitchen remains relatively quiet.

with painting so near at hand, i've been toying with the colors in my spare time. i decided that the guest bedroom will be some shade of yellow, just to make it different from the master bedroom. all the colors i picked are what i consider natural vegetable/fruit colors, warm and vibrant. the only color that's different is the blue i picked for the master bedroom. there's method to my madness i tell you! but too complicated to get into tonight, maybe another time.

after work, i went shopping with my mother and sister. we stopped off at the building #19 store in somerville, a whole warehouse of bargains. i found a red seat cushion for the dining room chair and got a book, "the ape and the sushi master" by frans de waal. there was a really great oriental rug for sale, handmade, amazingly complicated and interesting design, huge (8'x12'), and expensive, $1200. if i had a room big enough to fit that rug and the money to buy it, i would! later, we went to the everett greatland target, where i found the 24"x36" frame that were all sold out at the watertown target. next stop, bed bath & beyond, i got a 41"x66" barn red kitchen carpet. going home, there was a lovely sunset. we decided to grab a quick bite from the porter square macdonalds. it took a while to order, a case of mutual disunderstanding as to what meals we wanted (#1? #2? i didn't want the #5). we decided to eat there, but that was before a little japanese boy puked right in front of us, his father wasn't quick enough in rushing him to the bathroom. i don't know what was more shocking, the fact that somebody just puked within splashing distance of me, or the fact that i didn't even flinch. i sat there drinking my root beer, getting ready to eat. i'm so jaded when it comes to vomit. been there, done that! for a little japanese boy though, he sure puked up a lot. my mother and sister simultaneously decided it was time to leave, i didn't object to their decision, although i was ready to eat, with or without puke. in the car we realized they forgot the chicken mcnuggets so my sister ran back inside to complain, but the counter guy just forgot to order it, so i opted to quickly go home instead of staying there another minute waiting for the rest of my meal.
