i met eliza jones for lunch today at the porter exchange mall. today was the first day of a potential heat wave. before the meeting, i bought some daisies ($3) from the porter square station flower vendor. i also checked my bank account and was dismayed to find that june 28th fradulent transaction had actually gone through anyway and now i owe fleet bank $400, with no more money left in my account. i'm going to have fun tomorrow sorting out this mess with the bank.

eliza and i decided to try sapporo ramen, both ordering the miso vegetable ramen with meat broth. normally i'd have gone with something meatier, but the last few times i've ate out, i've had some bad reactions to my meals afterwards, so i was trying to keep it light. when our orders came, it was served in these huge cauldron bowls. at one point a man interrupted our lunch to inquire about what we were eating ("it looks delicious"). eliza and i talked about making miso soup, the difficulty of being a female rower, and slitted pants, amongst other topics. she noticed that everyone sitting at our table was wearing a black shirt, which is surprising, since on hot days like today, the conventional wisdom is to dress in light colors. monday's fashion victim slaves.

after lunch i brought eliza over to my place in cambridge to show her the condo. her appearance marks the 8th person to have visited my new home that i'm not living in quite yet. my father was already there, helping me rip up the plywood floorboards in the smaller bedroom. i gave eliza the deluxe tour, even showed her the basement, where she was the first person to have seen the foosball table relic since dan and i assembled it together a few nights ago. she also agreed with a lot of other people that the washer/dryer is perhaps the best thing in the house. later, she saw the bulk of my turkey photos (from last year) on my ibook that i had brought with me.

when the ibook ran out of batteries cutting short our impromptu traveling slideshow, that was eliza cue to go. after she left, i hooked up the little unused television my father had brought over to test the cable line. as i had suspected, the cable was still live. unfortunately that television is not cable ready and can only receive up to channel 14. still, having a working television in the place makes it seem a little less desolate. i also cut the daisies and put them in that blue vase i bought a few days ago, trying to brighten the place up a little bit.

my very first unemployment postcard also arrived today. i am to mail it back on july 6th in order to get my 2 weeks claim. i basically answer 4 questions - did you look for work?, were you available to work?, did you work?, and if you did work, how much did you make? - answer these four questions (fill in the ovals, write numbers on the boxes) and send the postcard back. it's all very easy.
